Register: Walk to Bear Witness: A Learning Journey Alongside Holocaust Survivors. November 21st.
CHES is pleased to invite Ottawa-area teachers to a workshop launching the National Holocaust Monument IWalk App – Student Version, an interactive and bilingual learning experience designed specifically for teachers and students. The workshop will take place on November 21st at 4:30 p.m.
Developed by CHES in partnership with Liberation75 and the USC Shoah Foundation, this professionally curated IWALK App offers a remarkable way to enhance visits to the National Holocaust Monument (NHM). Accessible via mobile devices, tablets, and computers, the App will provide an engaging and educational experience for teachers and their students.
The workshop will include a virtual tour of the NHM and explanations of the App’s comprehensive features, ensuring that teachers are fully equipped to guide their students through the NHM using the IWALK App. It features powerful testimonies from Holocaust survivors that enhance the NHM’s historical narrative, helping students to not only learn about the Holocaust but also to understand the enduring impact of antisemitism, racism, and all forms of hate. The App includes carefully designed pre-visit lessons that introduce students to the Holocaust and the NHM, as well as post-visit lessons to deepen their understanding and reflection after the experience.
Ottawa is fortunate to be home to the NHM, which is entitled The Landscape of Loss, Memory, and Survival. Holocaust monuments serve as contemporary and engaging entry points for students to begin a study of the Holocaust and the IWALK App is an excellent tool to facilitate such study of the NHM. The App makes the history of the Holocaust and the symbolism of the NHM accessible. It provides an unparalleled learning experience which will help students and teachers to develop a clear understanding of the historical context and recognize and deepen their appreciation of the Holocaust’s enduring relevance today.
