Focusing on educating about the Holocaust, current antisemitism, and the growing understanding of the Jewish community, CHES has been holding regular Pre-IWalk tours of the National Holocaust Monument with local groups throughout the spring.

CHES met with Heritage Canada’s Visit Experience Team at the National Holocaust Monument.

Despite  threatening rain, May 16th turned into a beautiful day when Heritage Canada and CHES joined educational forces at the National Holocaust Monument to deliver joint training to the Canada Visitor Experience Team, a group of 25 summer students hired by Heritage Canada to  guide visitors through the monument throughout the summer. We thank Heritage Canada for making this training a priority and for helping to increase awareness of the Holocaust and the National Holocaust Monument.

CHES Chair Mina Cohn welcomed representatives of Ottawa Police Services to the National Holocaust Memorial.

On May 30th, CHES welcomed the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) to the Monument for an intense learning session. Attendees included representatives from various OPS departments including Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Diversity, Resource, and Relations.

A warm thank you to Constable Gurprit Dhaliwal for arranging this important outreach with us, for the genuine interest and empathy shown by the group, and for taking the time to learn about the Holocaust, and for sharing this experience with fellow officers.

CHES was pleased to host civil servants from the Government of Canada for their tour of the Monument on June 22nd. Despite the heat, they were an engaged and inquisitive group, and we appreciated their thoughtful questions and suggestions.

With each Pre-IWalk tour of the National Holocaust Monument, we gain a deeper understanding of the interpretation needs. We look forward with enthusiasm to the upcoming launch of the IWalk in 2024.
