Sheila Hurtig Robertson, a Manotick-based author and editor, received the Centennial Medal and the Canadian Sport Award for Communications. A graduate of the University of Manitoba in history and political science, she was named one of the Top 20 Most Influential Women in Sport and received a national award for breaking down barriers to equal participation for girls and women in sport. Her grandfather, who left Romania in 1903 to escape the military draft, brought survivors to Canada after 1945, which kindled her lifelong interest in the Holocaust. She and her husband have three children and three grandchildren.
