Mina Cohn was born in Israel and has lived in Ottawa for 40 years. Both her parents were Holocaust survivors. An archaeologist by profession, an educator, and a sessional professor at Carleton University and St. Paul University, Mina has a strong interest in and extensive experience with Holocaust Education and remembrance. In 2015 she became the chair of the Centre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship (CHES), a community-based volunteer organization that addresses the growing need for Holocaust Education, given the rise in antisemitism in Ottawa and around the world. Previously, she served on the Ottawa Shoah Committee for 30 years and was its chair for seven years. Mina is a member of the founding committee of CHES and was its director for five-and-a-half years when CHES was affiliated with the Max and Tessie Zelikovitz Centre at Carleton University.
