The workshop focuses on legendary Polish-Jewish educator Janusz Korzcak, a strong advocate for the empowerment of young people who is remembered as the orphanage director who refused sanctuary for himself and perished with his orphans in Treblinka. It is designed to emphasize the importance and significance of Holocaust education, and why we must continue to study, think about, and discuss the Holocaust, as well as to make clear connections between the material covered here and issues that matter to young people (and, indeed, all people) today.
Presentation Description:
“Inspiring and Empowering Youth Through Holocaust Education” encourages participants to examine and explore their understanding of youth empowerment through the life and vocation of Janusz Korczac, Holocaust youth movements – wherein young Jewish men and women resisted and stood strong in the face of tremendous adversity – and the courage and resilience demonstrated by young couples immediately following Liberation. Participants shall have the opportunity to participate in dialogue and discussion, as well as to share their own ideas and opinions. This workshop emphasizes the current and relevant connections between Holocaust legacy and youth empowerment and how Holocaust history and legacy can be used and shared in order to promote awareness and positive change in our world, today.
