In commemoration of Yom Hashoah, CHES is delighted to collaborate with the Embassy of Israel to bring the Israeli tradition of Zikaron BaSalon to Ottawa homes this year.
Started in Israel in 2011, Zikaron BaSalon (A Memory in the Living Room) is a social initiative and an informal gathering aiming at meeting and listening to a survivor or a descendent share their family experience during the Holocaust. Held in private homes, participants in Zikaron Basalon hear first-hand from a descendant and participate in frank conversations.
The 2025 Zikaron BaSalon in Ottawa will feature five local descendants of Holocaust survivors, participants in CHES’ Through Their Eyes project, who will share their families’ survival stories and experiences.
This intimate gathering of remembrance contributes a personal element to teaching the lessons and legacies of the Holocaust and demonstrates the scope and impact of the Holocaust within our own community.
