On October 13th, Karina Gould, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and a granddaughter of a Holocaust survivor, together with Ya’ara Saks, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, and Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity and Inclusion, announced the appointment of Deborah Lyons as the new Special Envoy on preserving Holocaust remembrance and combatting antisemitism. Present for the announcement was outgoing Special Envoy Professor Irwin Cotler. In announcing the appointment, the government committed to preserving the truth about the Holocaust and the need to combat antisemitism was strongly stated by all speakers.
Lyons is a diplomat with 25 years of experience in international relations, political affairs, security management, and development.
